Some of you may or may not remember back in February I blogged about my experience on the contraceptive pill (read here), which has left me with a complication that I am still battling today. Many of you found the blog post incredibly interesting, and were interested to find out more following a review with the consultant. I have since had that review, and I thought I would update you all on what is happening.
Up until the point of my appointment with the consultant in February, my periods were still absent. Having discussed what was causing it (which I personally don't want to go into too much detail), the consultant provided me with medication for which I was instructed to take once a week. These tablets he told me would help kick start everything and hopefully get my body working again in the manner that it should be. Now I am a tad dubious when it comes to medication, but I thought I am up for trying anything, I just wanted to feel 'normal' again. I begun taking the medication straight away, and I felt no immediate side effects. And now it was just a matter of playing the waiting game . . . .

Days passed, weeks passed and then I felt that odd tummy ache feeling, I thought to myself ''...this is no ordinary tummy ache'', and blow and behold - my cycle had returned. I kid you not I have never been so happy in my whole entire life; 18+months had at last come to an end. I have since then had several more regular cycles, which is extremely promising. Of course feeling very pleased, I was certain that having spent 3months on medication I would most definitely be coming off it when I saw the consultant in May, however that was not to be the case.
The consultant was pleased to hear my progress; blood results were looking good and I generally am starting to feel 'normal' within myself. But although things are on the up, the consultant dropped the 'clanger' - I have continue taking the medication for a WHOLE YEAR!!!! Say whhaaaaa? Yes, my thoughts exactly. If I am honest, I am absolutely gutted as I genuinely thought I would be on it for the 3 months and then taken off it once my cycle had returned. I still have to have blood tests so the consultant can keep an eye, and although it's good news the cycle is back, just quite gutted that I'm stuck on medication for a year, which leads to another dilemma; contraception.

I have decided, although very personal, I will blog about my progress on this situation throughout the year. I just find it a great way for me to share with you what I am going through as a result of the pill, and it gives me the opportunity to write about it, as I have bottled it up all this time. Hope none of you mind? Hope it has been of interest to those who were interested in knowing more.

Yay for a period! Shame you need to take the medication for a year though but if it sorts you out it will be worth it. There are plenty of other methods of contraception anyway, it doesn't have to be the pill xx
Its good news you have your cycle back!! I had trouble with my first pill (which I believe was the M one) so I can off it almost immediately. The doctors later on put me on one called Yasmin, which I never have problems with and it works well! There are other methods available though, but you have to be careful if they will work with your medication :C
